Your method is brilliant. I have an idea if you could give three different voices, from different person. For example, for sentence "Hold your horses for a moment while I make a phone call", it would be perfect to listen from three different characters of voices. One, could be from a man, the other one said by a woman, and the last one is voice of a kid or teenager. So that, we can learn from different intonations and situation, but in the same expression.
Anyway, I like flowenglish...
